About the Programme

The Post-Basic Infection Control programme is a six-month, full-time specialised nursing programme designed for Registered Nurses seeking to develop advanced knowledge and professional competencies in infection prevention and control.

Delivered over one academic semester, the programme combines evidence-based theoretical learning with practical and clinical training to prepare nurses to play an effective role in preventing healthcare-associated infections, implementing infection control measures, promoting patient and staff safety, and supporting organisational compliance with infection prevention standards.

Students develop specialised competencies in infection surveillance, outbreak prevention and management, standard and transmission-based precautions, environmental infection control, occupational safety, antimicrobial stewardship awareness, and quality improvement.

Through exposure to specialised clinical settings, students strengthen their ability to assess infection risks, implement appropriate preventive measures, collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and contribute to a strong culture of patient safety and quality healthcare.

Upon completion, graduates are better prepared to undertake specialised responsibilities in infection prevention and control and to contribute effectively to infection control programmes across hospitals and other healthcare environments.
