About the Programme

The Graduate Certificate in Cardiovascular & Thoracic Sciences is a one-year, full-time specialised programme designed for healthcare professionals and graduates from relevant health sciences backgrounds who wish to specialise in cardiovascular and thoracic care.

The programme is particularly suited to those with backgrounds in Cardiovascular Technology, Radiography, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Assistant practice, and other relevant health sciences disciplines, subject to the applicable entry requirements. It provides an opportunity for participants to develop specialised knowledge and practical competencies in 2 key areas: Cardiovascular Technology and Perfusion Technology.

Delivered over three academic semesters, the programme combines evidence-based theoretical learning with extensive hands-on clinical training. Students gain exposure to specialised cardiovascular and thoracic procedures, advanced medical technologies, clinical practices, and patient care environments under the supervision of experienced preceptors and qualified healthcare professionals.

Through specialised clinical exposure, students develop the technical competence, clinical judgement, critical thinking, professional communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork required to contribute effectively to cardiovascular and thoracic healthcare services.

A distinctive strength of the programme is its close connection with the Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) healthcare ecosystem, providing students with valuable exposure to a highly specialised cardiovascular and thoracic care environment and the opportunity to learn alongside experienced healthcare professionals.

Upon completion, graduates are better prepared to pursue specialised roles and contribute to cardiovascular and thoracic healthcare services in areas relevant to their chosen specialisation and prior professional background.
