9 February 2026 – The Psychology Programme of IJN University College (IJNUC), in collaboration with Al-Wakeel NGO, conducted a meaningful collaboration visit to KOMITED Malaysia (Malaysian Drug Intervention Community) in Kuantan, Pahang.
The visit aimed to strengthen academic–community engagement while providing students with real-world exposure to psychosocial intervention and rehabilitation support services. KOMITED Malaysia is a community-based organisation committed to supporting individuals and families affected by drug use and HIV/AIDS through comprehensive intervention, prevention, treatment, care, and continuous community support.
Exposure to Holistic Community-Based Rehabilitation
During the visit, the IJNUC delegation toured KOMITED’s One-Stop Centres for men and women, Casa Femina, a halfway house dedicated to supporting women in recovery, and Casa Harapan, a safe and nurturing space for children whose parents are currently incarcerated.
The engagement provided valuable insights into the complex psychological, social, and emotional challenges faced by individuals in recovery and their families. Students witnessed firsthand the importance of integrated support systems that combine mental health services, psychosocial development, education, and life skills training to facilitate sustainable reintegration into society.
Building Resilience Through Psychological Support
One of the most impactful aspects of the visit was observing the resilience within the community — individuals rebuilding their lives with determination, women regaining confidence and independence, and children demonstrating courage despite difficult circumstances.
The experience reinforced the critical role of psychological intervention in rehabilitation settings. Beyond clinical support, structured guidance in emotional regulation, coping strategies, self-efficacy development, and community reintegration are essential components in the recovery journey.
Advancing Academic–Community Partnerships
This collaboration reflects IJNUC’s commitment to experiential learning and community engagement, ensuring that students are equipped not only with theoretical knowledge but also with practical exposure to real-life social issues.
Through strategic partnerships with organisations such as KOMITED Malaysia and Al-Wakeel NGO, IJNUC continues to strengthen its role in promoting mental health awareness, rehabilitation support, and community-based psychological services.
The visit serves as a reminder that recovery and healing are collective efforts. By fostering collaboration between higher education institutions and community organisations, meaningful and sustainable impact can be achieved for individuals and families in need.
IJNUC Psychology looks forward to continuing this partnership in advancing psychological support initiatives and contributing to a healthier, more resilient society.
