Study Visit to Human Anatomy Museum Strengthens Practical Learning

On 16 April 2026, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at IJN University College organised an educational study visit to the Human Anatomy Museum. The visit involved students from the Bachelor of Science in Cardiovascular Technology (Honours), Graduate Certificate in Cardiovascular & Thoracic Sciences, and Diploma in Physiotherapy programmes.

This initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality, experiential learning opportunities that complement academic coursework and support the development of future healthcare professionals.

Bridging Theory with Real-World Application

The primary objective of the visit was to enhance students’ understanding of human anatomical structures through direct observation of real human cadavers and preserved anatomical specimens. By engaging in this hands-on experience, students were able to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

The exposure allowed students to visualise anatomical structures in detail, reinforcing concepts learned in lectures and improving overall comprehension—an essential component in healthcare education.

Exposure to Pathology and Clinical Relevance

In addition to studying normal anatomy, students were introduced to a variety of pathological specimens. This provided valuable insight into diseases and clinical conditions relevant to both cardiovascular technology and physiotherapy disciplines.

Understanding pathological variations is crucial in preparing students for clinical environments, enabling them to make informed assessments and deliver effective patient care in the future.

Developing Critical Skills and Professional Values

The visit also focused on strengthening students’ observational and analytical skills, particularly in identifying normal and abnormal anatomical structures. These competencies are fundamental for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning in healthcare settings.

Equally important, the session emphasised ethical considerations and professionalism when handling human cadavers. Students were guided on maintaining respect, integrity, and responsibility—core values in the medical and healthcare professions.

Encouraging Interdisciplinary Learning

By bringing together students from different academic programmes, the study visit fostered interdisciplinary learning and collaboration. This environment encouraged knowledge-sharing and a broader understanding of each discipline’s role within the healthcare ecosystem.

Preparing Students for Clinical Readiness

Experiential learning activities such as this study visit play a vital role in reinforcing foundational knowledge and preparing students for clinical practice. Through real-world exposure, students gain confidence, competence, and a deeper appreciation of their future responsibilities in patient care.

The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at IJN University College remains committed to delivering holistic education that equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare industry.
